Soft Launch of bwCloud-OS Launched
The next generation of bwCloud-OS is ready: With modern technology, new hardware, and enhanced cloud capabilities, bwCloud-OS (Gen3) provides a powerful infrastructure for research, teaching, and scientific projects. As part of the soft launch, initial features are being made available and will be further developed in close collaboration with users.
With the soft launch of bwCloud-OS (Gen3), bwCloud-OS is launching as a general-purpose Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) platform that has been fundamentally modernized and equipped with the latest technologies, providing modern cloud resources for research and academia.
bwCloud-OS offers a flexible and powerful environment for a wide range of scientific and institutional use cases. Its goal is to simplify access to cloud-based infrastructures and provide a reliable foundation for digital research and working processes. In doing so, bwCloud-OS makes a sustainable contribution to the digital sovereignty of research and teaching in Baden-Württemberg.
The soft launch marks an important milestone in the introduction of bwCloud-OS (Gen3). During this phase, initial functionalities will be made available, tested, and further developed in close collaboration with users. The experience gained during this period will directly contribute to the ongoing expansion and enhancement of the service.
Key elements of the “bwCloud 3” project include the deployment of new, state-of-the-art, and energy-efficient hardware, the transition of the bwCloud-OS state-wide service to an independent, self-financed operating model, and the introduction of new functionalities. These include, among others, VDI integration, GPU utilization, the introduction of Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) components, and many additional enhancements.
