The bwCloud-OS Generation 3 will enter the production launch phase on September 15, 2026.

The service has already been approved for production use by eligible institutions and end users.

Until the end of November 2026, the new infrastructure will continue to be stabilized and consolidated. Starting in December 2026, bwCloud-OS Generation 3 will be available as a fully operational service.

The following image provides an overview of the individual phases and time periods.

Readiness and Migration

Institutions that have not yet achieved Gen3 Readiness by September 15, 2026, but are already preparing for it, can continue to work toward achieving readiness.

This means that the migration of end users will also remain possible after the start of the production launch phase.

During the production launch phase, the Local Support and IDM adaptations in particular will continue to be developed and optimized.

Decommissioning and “Pausing” of Resources

On September 15, 2026, the OpenStack resources will be decommissioned and shut down.

However, they will be retained until October 15, 2026, during the so-called “pausing” period to allow latecomers to complete their migration.

The office hours will be extended until October 25, 2026.

Contract Completion

Institutions that are already Gen3 Ready but whose contractual arrangements are still being finalized are asked to expedite the process and complete the contract as soon as possible.
