Important Shutdown-Note
Gen2 of the bwCloud-OS infrastructure will be decommissioned as of September 15, 2026. The Gen2-infrastructure will be replaced by the more current and more efficient Gen3 infrastructure. More information on the migration to bwCloud-OS (Gen3) can be found here .
All bwCloud-OS projects and data on your VMs still available on bwCloud-OS at this point in time will be permanently deleted.
Please ensure that you have been provided by your home organisation with the required authorisation and quota usage allowance to be able to continue using bwCloud-OS (Gen3) as needed after bwCloud-OS (Gen2) has been decommissioned.
Participating higher education institutions will be charged for their use of bwCloud-OS. It is important to note that it is not the assigned quotas that are billed, but instead only ressources actually allocated (vCPUs, RAM und Storage) are billed. The assigned quotas merely indicate the upper limit on the usable ressources and the resulting costs.
Act Now
Please perform the migration of your VMs / projects to bwCloud-OS (Gen3) in time, so that your VMs / projects will be available in the new environment as needed and a smooth transition to the new infrastructure is ensured.
1. Check
Please check the existing projects, VMs and data assigned to you in the Gen2 environment, e. g. via the Gen2-Dashboard. While doing this, please also determine your future resource needs.
2. Contact
Contact your home organisation to clarify the process used to assign quota for bwCloud-OS applicable for you. If necessary, please request authorisation to access bwCloud-OS (Gen3) as well as the assignment of the required “quota flavor” according to the process established by your home organisation.
3. Register
Please register for bwCloud-OS (Gen3) by accessing bwCloud-OS-Portal. When logged in to the Dashboard, please check which ressources are available to you in the Dashboard (make sure to select the correct region). If the available ressource allocation does not meet your expectations, please go back to step 2.
4. Migrate
Migrate vour VMs and data to Gen3. Since Gen2 and Gen3 are separate environments, migration of VMs cannot be performed automatically. Please follow the steps as described in the migration guide.
